A Silent Teacher

It was my 5th morning in Delhi. I was standing   at the bus stop, waiting for the bus which will take me towards my destination. The clouds were getting prepared for showering. The bus came and I went into it. The conductor welcomed me by asking me the unfair fare. There were various kinds of people in that bus. Some were waiting for their stop to come, some were busy listing to music, some were negotiating with the conductor, some  were  not  seeming  to have  good sleep  on last night, some were observing the behavior of their  wristwatch  in a fraction of  5 seconds, wanting the driver to put  more weight on the accelerator and I was  watching the  glorious  dark clouds  through the window. Apart from all that,  another thing  which  was able to  grab my attention  was  the  smile of  a girl. She was a very simple looking girl with dimple. Dimple was appearing each time she was smiling while talking with her friend. Her smile did not allow my eyes to fully concentrate on clouds. I was getting unknown happiness each time my eyes encountered with her smile. There was an X factor in her smile.

Everyday I traveled by that same bus. Everyday I saw some familiar faces, some unfamiliar faces, some regular faces and a smiley face. Everyday she was smiling, no matter whether she was talking to her friend or someone else. Everyday she and her friend’s chatting topics were on their mutual friends, boyfriends and all day activities. As obvious boyfriend topic took more priority.  Her friend always talked bad points about her own boyfriend but she always talked good points about her own boyfriend. She was getting very excited when ever their topic came to her boyfriend.  Someone means completely different to someone when he or she become his or her boyfriend or girlfriend or someone special.

One day it was raining heavily. I was enjoying the rain, but she did not seem to be enjoying anything. She was looking very sad. She was not even talking to her friend.

Conductor asked me for fair. Her friend asked her “what happen”.

I gave a 10 rupee note to conductor. She replied “he dumped me”.

Raindrops were rolling down on window glass. Tear drops were rolling down on her cheeks.

Rain drops hitting window glass were producing pleasant sound. She was crying with no sound.

I understood everything. For next few days she did not smile at all. It seemed her smile and dimple had gone for a long vacation. Then after few days she smiled a little bit. Then next day she smiled a bit more. It took her about two weeks to be as usual or literally smile as usual. It was like at last she dumped the pain which was given by her ex-someone special. Now their chatting topic was restricted to their mutual friends and all day activities.

Unfortunately after a week she and her friend stop traveling by that bus. From that day I have never seen her, but silently she taught me one thing, that “time is best medicine for wounded hearts”. It’s very easy to become someone’s sweetheart but it’s very hard for them to forget you who made you their sweetheart.

To me some are remembered by their deeds, some are remembered by their behavior, some are remembered by their name, but she will be remembered by her smile.
